The history of mammoplasty (breast augmentation) dates back to the 19th century. Once women start removing corsets, there are attempts to influence the shape and size of the mammary glands.
First, liquid paraffin is injected into the tissues, then they try to enlarge the breasts using the most unusual materials: glass balls, ivory, cartilage, feathers. The consequences of such experiments have nothing to do with health and beauty. It should be noted that surgeons who try to enlarge the breasts with the help of the patient’s own fat come closest to solving the problem. Later, this idea will be developed. But the result is not permanent, because adipose tissue is absorbed relatively quickly.
In the second half of the twentieth century, the invention of silicone gave a new impetus to plastic surgery. Liquid silicone gel is injected directly into the breast area. Complications of such operations soon: inflammation, granulation, neoplasms. Often, women have to agree to complete breast removal to save their lives.
In 1961-1964, the predecessor of modern implants was developed, namely silicone sacs filled with a specific gel or salt solution. They begin to be placed under the glands or under the muscles. However, reports that its use could cause cancer, temporarily delayed their victory march. In 2006, the implants were restored.
Stars and plastic
It is now no longer acceptable to hide the fact that women use the services of plastic surgeons and improve their appearance. Some stars don’t mind creating additional news feeds to remind about themselves. Among those who decided on breast augmentation with implants and did not regret it were Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera.
Do you have to be afraid?
Of course, any surgical intervention initially causes us concern. For those who are afraid of surgery, but want to enlarge their breast size, they offer all kinds of magic creams, ointments containing phytoestrogens, hormone therapy, special physical exercises, and injection preparations (fillers). It should be understood that such a procedure will not give the desired results. In short, creams and ointments simply cannot penetrate biological barriers, and the concentration of active ingredients in them is small; exercise can increase chest muscles, but not gland size, and fillers based on hyaluronic acid act only on the skin and subcutaneous layers, and then only at a young age.
If you really decide that breast augmentation will help you not only look, but also feel better, just find a clinic and plastic surgeon you can trust. Believe me, a specialist will not persuade you to undergo surgery if there is no special need for it. They will listen to you, examine you, choose the optimal shape and size of your breasts, and use computer modeling to show you how your physique will be cared for after mammoplasty. In addition, they will warn you about the consequences, contraindications and possible complications so that you can consciously make the final decision.
When breast augmentation is desirable
The main causes of breast enlargement include:
- Inconsistency of shape and size of mammary glands with female figure and constitution (very small or flat).
- Sagging and loss of shape after eating.
- Visible asymmetry.
However, often the indication for mammoplasty is one thing - a woman’s desire to increase the size and improve the shape of her breasts.
The specialist may refuse surgery if:
- Less than 1 year has passed since the end of breastfeeding.
- There are changes in the gland in the form of mastopathy or tumors are found.
- There are severe chronic diseases, including blood clotting disorders or pathology of the endocrine system.
- Active inflammatory and infectious processes in the body.
Choice of implants and surgery
In order for enlarged breasts to look natural, and patients not to worry if the plastic is noticeable, various versions of silicone implants and their installation methods have been developed.
The requirements for modern implants (endoprostheses) are quite strict. They should be very durable, if possible, have an anatomical shape and not cause severe complications (capsule formation, rejection, displacement).
Depending on the characteristics of the figure, skin condition, individual preferences, doctors may offer a choice of silicone implants, which differ in:
- Shape: round or teardrop -shaped.
- Size: from 150 to 850 ml.
- Filling: gel or special physiological solution (copy).
- Surface type: smooth or textured (less prone to displacement).
Variations in the location of the endoprosthesis are also possible:
- Under the mammary gland (subglandular) - with the presence of a fairly large glandular tissue itself and preserved skin elasticity, otherwise it will be very noticeable.
- Below the fascia (subfascial) - in the pocket of the muscular shell, which consists of connective tissue.
- Below the chest muscle (submuscular) - more traumatic, because the muscle must be cut part of the ribs.
- The location of the joint - partly below the glands and below the muscles, the most reliable and less noticeable fixation.
In addition to the method of installation, the type of access is selected, i. e. , the place where the surgical incision will be:
- in the folds under the glands the most anatomical and faster healing, but not always possible;
- around the areola (nipple) is used in women who have been breastfeeding and require correction of the areola-nipple complex;
- under the arm is not the easiest and somewhat traumatic option.
How is breast augmentation surgery with implants (enlargement mamoplasty)
Prior to surgery, patients must undergo examinations, including blood and urine tests, clinical and biochemical tests, tests for coagulation, HIV and syphilis, ECG, fluorography and mammography. Only after that the operation is scheduled. Two weeks before surgery, blood thinning is canceled, smoking and alcohol are prohibited, as they have a detrimental effect on wound healing. Prior to the intervention, regardless of the type of anesthesia, patients did not eat or drink for 8 hours.
The operation is performed under general or local anesthesia. First, a so -called implant pocket is prepared, the installation is done and then the final installation. If the filling is saline, a silicone sheath is inserted first and then the implant is filled with liquid.
Thereafter, drainage is introduced to drain blood and other fluid contents from the operating area and special compression garments are worn, correcting the breast in the desired position.
Lipofilling
If you need a slight correction of the décolleté area, then breast augmentation can be done without installing implants. This is lipofilling. A large amount of fat is taken from the spot with the growing adipose tissue, filtered and injected into the chest area. On the one hand, this method combines 2 surgeries to form a figure at once: liposuction and mammoplasty, so it may be most suitable for some patients. Instead, after a while the fat is absorbed and the procedure needs to be repeated.
It can also be used in combination with augmentation mammoplasty, if necessary to smooth the area of the implant location.
Live with new breasts
After discharge from the clinic (usually on the second day), a bandage is performed, the scar is covered with a plaster, and painkillers are given if necessary. The stitches were removed after a week.
Patients wear compression underwear for at least one to two months, and during this time they can only sleep on their backs. Up to 3 months of strenuous physical activity, thermal procedures, swimming pools are contraindicated.
The final results of the operation can be assessed only after six months. Modern implants allow you to live a full life without hesitation. The only thing you have to break apart is to jump from a height. It is better to plan a pregnancy no earlier than a year after surgery. You also need to monitor the weight and condition of the skin. Sudden fluctuations in weight can cause sagging breasts.
Otherwise, you can enjoy beautiful breasts and the attention of the opposite sex. Now the improvement of the body itself takes place without harming health.
So consider the pros and cons, consult an experienced specialist and boldly go to your dreams.
